The Leftover Sammy Classic

The Leftover Sammy Classic

Everyone knows that after a big Thanksgiving, Christmas, or other holiday meal, there are always leftovers. These leftovers are bomb (duh!), but we put together an even more delicious way of eating them. Allie and I call it…the Leftover Sammy Classic.

Who doesn’t love a good grilled cheese sandwich? I am in love with coming up with different combinations to add to my grilled sandwiches and knew this would be fantastic before it even touched my lips.

There really isn’t a lot to do since you’ve already labored over the meal. All you need to do is get out some of those leftovers, slap them between some bread, and grill them up!

Ingredients:

Your favorite homemade (or store-bought) bread (I have my favorite kind of bread to use pictured below)
Gouda cheese (or any melting cheese you have left over from your cheese platter)
Sliced turkey breast
Cranberry sauce

Directions:

  1. Butter one side of each piece of bread.
  2. Spread a generous amount of cranberry sauce on the non-buttered side of each slice, add a healthy amount of sliced turkey breast, and then finish it off with 1-2 slices of cheese.
  3. Transfer the open-faced sandwich to a preheated frying pan and place buttered side down. Top sandwich with other slice of bread with butter-side facing up. Brown on one side, and then flip over your sandwich to brown the other side. (For extra crispy bread, I add a little EVOO to the frying pan before I cook the sandwich to create an extra crispy crunch to the outside of the sammy)
  4. Enjoy!

Tip: Try dipping your Leftover Sammy Classic in leftover warm gravy for a particularly delectable lunch!
